What Equipment Should I Pack for Kickboxing Class?

We are excited that you are training with us at Benjilany Striking!

Since almost every class will include partner drills, you will need some equipment to get started:

  1. Boxing gloves (16 oz.): We ask that students wear 16 oz. gloves for added protection and comfort.

  2. Hand wraps: Wearing hand wraps provide additional support to your hands and wrists. If you need help wrapping your hands, reach out to one of our coaches before class.

  3. Muay Thai Shinguards: Wearing shinguards not only protects your own shin and foot, it will also protect your partner when you are throwing kicks. We recommend shinguards made of leather or faux-leather with straps on the back. We do not recommend slip-on, fabric shin pads.

  4. Mouth Guard: We recommend traditional boil and bite mouthguards that will provide a better fit around your teeth. If you would like to spend a little more, there are custom mouth guard options through manufacturers or from your dentist.

As for clothing, wear a t-shirt and athletic shorts that will allow you to comfortably move around.

For intermediate/advanced-level sparring, wearing an athletic cup is highly recommended.

Once you are finished with class, we have cleaning towels and antibacterial sprays for you to wipe down your gloves and shinguards. Wipe down your equipment after every class and remove them from your gym bag to air them out when you get home.

Gloves, hand wraps and shinguards are available for purchase at the gym.
